ch 1 : The Reader of Books
Matilda is a really smart and special girl, but her parents don't notice. They think her brother is normal, but Matilda can talk like a grown-up at just one and a half years old! She teaches herself to read by the time she's three, but her parents don't pay much attention. Matilda loves books, but her dad tells her to watch TV instead.
When her family is busy, Matilda goes to the library by herself. The librarian, Mrs. Phelps, is a bit worried but, even thoguh, she lets her explore books. Matilda reads lots of cool stories and even learns how to borrow books. While her family is away, Matilda enjoys hot chocolate and escapes into the magical world of books
ch 2: Mr. Wormwood,
the Great Car Dealer
Matilda lives in a nice home with her family. Her father, Mr. Wormwood, is a successful used car salesman who shares his dishonest tricks during dinner. He reveals that he puts sawdust in a car's oil and manipulates the odometer to make the cars seem better than they are. When Matilda protests, saying it's dishonest, her father becomes angry, and her mother punished her for disrespecting him. Despite feeling upset, Matilda is determined to get revenge on her parents, starting with her father.


ch 3: The Hat and the Superglue
Matilda decides to play a funny trick on her dad. She secretly puts superglue inside his favorite hat, so when he puts it on, it gets stuck to his head! Her dad doesn't realize, and he has to wear the hat all day. When he comes home, he try to take it off, but it won't budge. Matilda suggests cutting it off, and when he finally do, her dad has a funny bald ring on his head. Even though Matilda hoped he would learn a lesson, her dad doesn't seem to get it.
